Traffic Trivia - Answer
Posted by: Anonymous on March 23, 2007 at 10:00AM EST

On Wednesday I posted this question:

  • In Massachusetts, which of the 12 months has the highest average traffic volume?

The answer is August.

According to the traffic count data provided on Mass Highway’s web site, August is the month with the highest vehicle counts hitting MHD”s sensors throughout the state.

This is the same pattern of usage for the SmarTraveler information service.   Busy in the summer, quiet in the winter.

Yeah, I figured it was a summer month with all the Cape traffic and similar weekend vacations. Plus all the college kids getting dropped off before Labor Day. I would've (and did) guess May but August makes a lot of sense.

Ironically, August is rather nice on the subway because there's so many people/students out of the city that the service gets noticeably better. Unless the A/C is out on your trolley, of course. :-/
