I spent a good part of the day today driving out to Fitchburg on Route 2, a trip I make to see family every couple of weeks. Today’s trip was different in that there was more road-kill than I’d ever seen. There were huge numbers of small animals that had been killed, lying on the side of the road. It was very sad and definitely more than I had ever noticed before. And it wasn’t limited to a single species; I saw raccoon, opossum, skunks and a whole bunch of unidentifiable critters as well.
Perhaps some of you might have another theory as to why this might happen, but my guess is that it’s a result of all of the flooding in the region. I’m guessing that animals are being displaced by all of the water and need to look for food in new and distant locations.
Is that accurate?
