Dowling's Wednesday thoughts from Manny to the New Celtics
Posted by: Mike Dowling on July 12, 2006 at 12:54PM EST

MANNY- Will controversy ever elude this guy? ..Um, No! But that is part of what makes Manny so interesting and overall fun to cover (and fun to follow as a fan)

Don't count on anyone confirming if in fact Manny does have any kind of structural damage to his knee but most athletes (including weekend athletes) play with the type of meniscus cartilage damage to his knee that is being speculated. I mean he did play 19 innings on Sunday, how bad can it be?

Manny should just be grateful that baseball's biggest and most loveable ambassador- David Ortiz lockers in the same clubhouse to deflect so much attention and take pressure off of Manny.

NEW CELTICS- I think you are really going to like the new Celtic point guards.

After watching a couple of pre-draft workouts and a rookie camp workout I came away more impressed with Celtics 1st round draft choice Rajon Rondo than Sebastian Telfair. Tho Telfair is a pretty good player and will add alot to this Celtic team, I'm not sure he will ever live up to the hype he came out of high school with. He is 5'11".

Rondo is just over 6'1" but has arms and hands that allow him to play like he is 6'4". He takes full advantage of his big hands, so much so that he appears to carry the ball as mush as Iverson and Dwayne Wade. If he can make his free throws-you are really going to like him.

GOLF- The state's best Amateur golfers are presently in the middle of one of the MGA's best tournaments of the year- the week long Massachusetts Amateur tournament being held at historic Worcester Country Club. And today-wednesday, one of the best matches of the entire tournament is taking place pitting 2 time champ Frank Vana (Marlborough CC) against 2002 winner Brendan Hester (Pleasant valley CC)

PATRIOTS- How is Bill Belichick feeling about new pickup Jonathon Sullivan who last month was picked up on possession of marijuana? I'll tell you how he is feeling- PO'd. Who did the background check on this guy? Sullivan was trouble (and an underachiever) with the Saints and Belichick is hoping that Sullivan will drink of the Patriots kool-aid and embrace the system(ala Corey Dillon). I guess they didn't give him enough of the cool-aid at last month's mini camp.

Can you believe these guys start practice in just 16 days?
