BC wins- Bob Knight should hang it up
Posted by: Mike Dowling on March 15, 2007 at 4:42PM EST

BC did what they have been doing since Al Skinner arrived at Chestnut Hill 10 years ago- run the same old offense and Bob Knight still couldn't figure it out.

When BC's 1st round tournament game against Texas Tech was on the line, the Eagles went to their bread and butter- screens and back cuts and Bob Knight's team just could not figure it out. Now give Skinner and his Eagles credit- they run it well, but Knight's Texas Tech team looked as lost as their coach did and is. At 66 years of age it is time for Knight to hang it up- the game has passed him by.

Todays post game press conference was almost sad for the aging Knight who had no explanation for his teams mediocre play. That didn't stop him from being somewhat beligerent. He was blatantly outcoached and outsmarted. Add to that BC's Matador defense in the 1st half which allowed Texas Tech to stay in the game and Texas Tech was finally exposed for the mediocre team that they are.

BC will not win another game in the tournament, unfortunately having to face national powerhouse Georgetown, but BC would have alot of trouble beating any of the top 20 teams in the country. Since they lost 6-10 center Sean Williams in January for not showing up to a mandatory class for the 3rd or 4th time, BC has been an above average team. They play hard and play to their potential, sometimes a little beyond- but their potential does not approach Georgetowns.

If you are a BC fan- enjoy this win, they may not have another NCAA tournament win for awhile. The departure of Jared Dudley and Sean Marshall-a school record 261 career starts combined- is going to leave nearly impossibly big shoes to fill. I really like Tyrese Rice but he had better start talking some of his buddies from Virgina to coming up to Boston to play for Skinner who does have a habit of finding recruiting diamonds in the rough. Coach Skinner is goinmg to have to really beat the bushes to get replacements for Williams, Dudley and Marshall- I hope he is on the phone right now touting this tournament win to potential recruits-he may not have this chance for awhile.

More from BC and their players coming up
